If you’re not already across Sydney based trio PLANTS, you’re missing out. No two ways about it. The band ooze out a sultry and infectious brand of Australiana-tinged synth-pop that will seep into your bones and force your body to groove.
With the release of their debut single Electric Blue, they immediately established their penchant for crafting shimmering pop gems. And today, we’re stoked to be premiering their surreal new video for the same track.
Like a gust of fresh, seaside air, the new video (and fragrance) from Sydney based trio PLANTS is a surreal and shimmering slice of disco-pop glory.
Across the new video’s three-and-a-half-minute duration, PLANTS glide through various hallucinatory scenes, as they appear on the Italian talk-show Francesca to plug their new fragrance, Electric Blue. Of course, I can’t smell this fragrance through my computer screen, but I imagine it’s a perfume representative of a fresh, ocean-breeze.
With layers of dreamy vocal hooks and rich, glittery instrumentation, Electric Blue (the song) is the perfect soundtrack for an advertisement of such a perfume.
Directed by Pastel Fury and Paxi, the new clip is bizarre and captivating. As the band interact with a variety of absurd characters – and lay down a performance of the track looking like the prom band from that episode of Twin Peaks – you’ll be roped in completely to their surreal imagery.
These are still early days for PLANTS but judging by everything we’ve seen and heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more quality material from this Sydney band.
For now, do yourself a favour and watch the new clip for Electric Blue above.
