The 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog is next year, so what should expect out of SEGA’s flagship mascot?
Following the rather controversial film, SEGA has big plans in store for us regarding the 30th anniversary of Sonic the Hedgehog.
Blitzing across the screens since 1991, this is a franchise both boomers and zoomers can enjoy together. Much like Nintendo’s Mario, the SEGA rival has also been known to feature across multiple platforms and genres — who knows what sorts of games will come out next year?
As per tradition, SEGA has big plans every five years, commemorating the birth of their beloved blue blur. From the atrocity that was Sonic ’06 to the remarkably successful Sonic Mania in 2016, Sonic titles are not exactly consistent. With a hit-or-miss culture built around the franchise, fans will wait anxiously for the fate of their speeding hedgehog.
Over the past few weeks, we have seen countless SEGA sales on the Nintendo Switch with incredible deals on games, including Sonic titles. As fans are slowly being teased with older classics, an advertisement within the Licensing Source Book Europe: Summer 2020 promises for “a year of celebration – new games, digital content, events, major announcements and a tailored licensing programme.”
