Single Premiere: The Trotskies – DYR

As we inch ever closer to November you notice a change in the atmosphere. Sure it’s getting hotter, as any weather man worth his salt will tell you, but as Summer swiftly approaches we shed our Winter skin and explode with passion. There a festivals to go to, barbecues to be cooked and sunscreen to be vigorously applied. There is a promise of adventure in the air, and for the moment we’re all waiting for that pin to drop and go into party mode. When I think of the allure of the Summer time, the new single DYR from The Trotskies is the first thing that comes to mind.

The Trotskies

Dark, mysterious and exciting. The Trotskies’ alluring new track DYR will have you itching to take an adventure into the unknown.

The Melbourne five piece have been hard at working gigging up and down the east coast whilst also finding the time to write and record new material following up the release of their self titled EP  last year. DYR is the first tasty morsel from these sessions and if it’s anything to go by then we should expect some more solid stuff from The Trotskies in the near future.

The Trotskies fall into a darker, grittier vein of indie music and are bound to please fans of lighter indie-pop and post-punk fans alike. DYR is an evolution of the tracks found on their first EP. The guitar parts maintain their echoing presence but are not as pretty, becoming much more droning and introspective. The rhythm section pulses like mad, the bass line relentlessly punctuating each note, effectively keeping the track  at a good pace whilst the drums create enough space for the guitars and vocals to soar.

What is great about this song is its alluring nature. The slow build draws you in, the slightly muffled vocals creates an air of ambiguity. The keyboards fly under the radar and it may take a few listens to pick up on it, but they add an otherworldly atmosphere that gives the impression of searching for something new in the familiar. This song is better suited to a long drive playlist than a party one.

Okay, enough yammering from me, you can now go ahead and enjoy the DYR for yourself.

The Trotskies will be releasing their new EP early next year, and have a few launch shows in December so keep your eyes peeled for tour dates in the near future!
