Slayyyter starts fights on new pure pop single ‘Makeup’ ft. Lolo Zouaï

Slayyyter has enlisted Lolo Zouaï for the pure pop revelry that is her latest single Makeup.

Slayyyter has delivered pure pop in the form of Makeup, a glitzy new single featuring Lolo Zouaï. The track sees the US singer-songwriter acknowledge her role in creating problems in a relationship, knowing that the outcome will result in an adrenaline-filled resolution.

In true Slayyyter fashion, the pop star litters razor-sharp barbs with a wink, admitting to her paramour that she “start[s] fights ‘coz I wanna makeup.”

Distorted synths and electronic drum beats create the pulsating soundscape for the singer’s anti-love letter, with whirring ambience and a sultry vocal performance.

Brimming with infectious hooks and an earworm refrain, Makeup later benefits from Zouaï’s rapid-fire verse, which catapults the track into a Y2K sound.

Speaking of the single, which was originally intended for her recent second album, Slayyyter said: “I made this song about 2 years ago and it always felt really special to me.”

She continued: “I asked Lolo to hop on it for a feature and I feel like she breathed some new life into it.” Makeup is the first track to be released since STARFUCKER, Slayyyter’s shimmering full-length project which arrived in September.

Across 12 tracks, the singer-songwriter takes listeners on a journey through Hollywood, embodying an LA starlet persona to chronicle everything from fame, sex, femme fatales and the obsession with celebrity.

The sophomore album — a follow up to 2021’s Troubled Paradise — featured singles like Erotic Electronic and Miss Belladonna, and heralded Slayyyter as an ascendant new voice in hyperpop.

Slayyyter wrapped up a tour in support of Tove Lo earlier this year, and is poised to headline her own run of shows throughout 2024 and into the new year. Find ticketing information for Slayyyter’s US ‘Club Valentine’ tour here
