A purveyor of everything ambient and generally a musical mastermind, Brian Eno has outdone himself with the details of his new album Reflections due January 1st.
Combining the physical releases of the record on the usual platforms, Eno has collaborated with Peter Chilvers to create an “endlessly generating” version of the album, to be released as an iOS app.
On the first day of 2017 you’ll officially be able to listen to Brian Eno’s music forever as he releases an endlessly generating version of his album Reflections.
The app version of Reflections uses a series of pre-determined algorithms to generate music, and will take into account the time of day it is playing.
“The harmony is brighter in the morning, transitioning gradually over the afternoon to reach the original key by evening,” Chilvers explained. “As the early hours draw in, newly introduced conditions thin the notes out and slow everything down.”
Eno has only revealed minute details on the project, but has likened the time-consuming process of watching his algorithms unfold for weeks to tending plants:
“It’s a lot like gardening: you plant the seeds and then you keep tending to them until you get a garden you like.”
