Vocalist and guitarist of Soundgarden Chris Cornell has passed away, aged 52, according his representative, Brian Bumbery, to the Associated Press.

Cornell was found dead late in a hotel room in Detroit, late on Wednesday, May 17. His cause of death has now been reported by the Associated Press as suicide by hanging. It was confirmed by a medical examiner in Detroit earlier today, as pointed out by AP News.
Soundgarden were one of the pioneers of the grunge movement in the 1990’s and are most well known for their hit Black Hole Sun.
In 2001, he formed Audioslave with then-former Rage Against the Machine members Tom Morello (lead guitar), Tim Commerford (bass/backing vocals), and Brad Wilk (drums).
Cornell also had a successful solo career, releasing five albums from 1999 to the last in 2015, Higher Truth, which reached the top 20 in the US.
Soundgarden are currently on tour, and Cornell was set to perform at Rock the Range in Columbus last night.
