Last year saw the birth of King St Crawl, one of the best things to happen for Sydney live music in the past few years. Dozens of bands and hundreds of punters flocked to King Street in Newtown for a Father’s Day for the ages, crowding into venues scattered across the central hub to soak in some of the best bands Sydney has to offer.
This year they’ve upped the ante, acquiring 150 bands from Sydney and beyond, plus help from some indie labels and other tastemakers, to host bands across over 30 venues in Newtown and surrounding suburbs. It’s pretty fair to predict this King St Crawl is going to blow last tear’s out of the water.
One of the labels putting on a show is I OH YOU, taking over The Marly with bands like MOSSY, Green Buzzard and Rolling Blackout Coastal Fever. To get pumped for the festival, we asked I OH YOU label director Johann Ponniah to put together a pre-festival playlist of the bands he’s psyched to see. Take heed, and be sure to check out the whole mammoth lineup below – it’s bigger than Splendour.
