In their New Year message, Studio Ghibli announced they will be working on two new films in 2020 including one by iconic director Hayao Miyazaki.

This will be Miyazaki’s first feature film for Ghibli since 2013’s The Wind Rises, bringing an end to his retirement. The ground-breaking director oversaw the creation of classic films Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, My Neighbour Totoro and Howl’s Moving Castle.

Studio Ghibli’s New Year statement explained that the launch of their Ghibli Park has also been delayed due to the Typhoons in Japan last year.

The statement ends, “I hope that the mood of the stagnating society will be renewed and that we will have a year of hope. Studio Ghibli continues to work on two new films. Also, Ghibli Park has started in earnest, so we hope to be able to deliver a lot of excitement again this year.”

Miyazaki’s new film will be entitled How Do You Live? The movie is expected to be based on Genzaburo Yoshino’s novel from 1937 and how it relates to the life of a 15-year-old child.

There is no news yet on release dates of either of the two films. However, with Studio Ghibli’s track record, both films are bound to resonate for generations to come.
