If you only see one band live this month, make it Sun Collective

It’s pretty difficult to keep track of all the great records that get released these days. Many albums fly under the radar that really shouldn’t… so we’re doing our best to make sure these incredible album’s get the attention they deserve. Introducing Sun Collective’s debut self-titled album.

Although a year-and-a-half has passed since its release, we thought this stunning collection of songs is well worth revisiting – especially considering the band are making their debut Australian appearances this month.

A year-and-a-half removed from the release of their debut album, Sun Collective are making their debut Australian appearances this month. You don’t want to miss this.

Led by Dublin-born songwriter and composer Caimin Gilmore, Sun Collective is a collaborative ensemble of Irish classical and jazz musicians. They perform an orchestral brand of immaculately crafted indie-folk that will swirl around your body before landing deeply in the marrow of your bones. Once you dive into their debut album, you’ll never want to leave.

Having performed alongside Zach Condon of Beirut, Squarepusher, The Staves, Bon Iver, Aaron Dessner and recorded with Adam Cohen on Leonard Cohen’s upcoming posthumous album, Gilmore definitely knows his way around a tune. On the Sun Collective project, Gilmore is joined by singer and pianist Shane Sugrue, who weaves layer upon layer of rich sonic textures.

Sun Collective’s debut Aussie performances will take place at Woodford Folk Festival, before they travel around the country to perform in Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria. Do yourself a favour and watch this band live. Check out the full run of tour dates below:
