Teasing tricksters: it looks like Tool’s new album is coming this year

Progressive rock pioneers Tool have teased that their new album will arrive this year. However it’s their favourite trick in the book, and as usual, nothing is set in stone.

Yesterday the band changed their cover photo on Facebook. Greyed out behind the word Tool are some Roman numerals. MMXIX translates to ‘2019’, so unless they are the biggest trolls of all time, we think they have finally confirmed the album will arrive this year.

Tool have teased a new album, but if the clues are anything to go by, fans can expect a shiny new record in the coming months.

The horse has not run smooth from the gates so far and there have been plenty of hurdles and stumbles on the album so far. However, fans could be relieved when Maynard James Keenan tweeted in February, detailing the album plans.

He noted they were “midway through mixing” and the album could be expected “between Mid May and Mid July.”

A new record would be the band’s first in 13 years, following 2006’s 10,000 Days. Yet, with an amped up touring schedule and clues and codes to crack, I think it’s safe to say that Tool certainly have something forthcoming in the near months. But hey, how about a release date!
