Local caffeine aficionados are relishing in the rare opportunity to witness the 2018 World Aeropress Championships here in Sydney, hosted by local roasters Single O.
November 17 will see 61 competitors from around the world heading to COMMUNE in Waterloo to compete for the grand title of World Aeropress Champion, a niche and well sought-after award.
This is the 11th year of the World Aeropress Championships, and the first year it’s been held here in Australia. This is also the first year that the organisers are allowing punters to sample coffees from the competitors. If filter just isn’t doing it for you, Single O will also be serving up ‘spros throughout the day.
Preceding the comp will be an all-day coffee party on Friday, November 16. Attendees can sink free beers throughout the weekend thanks to Melbourne-based brewery Moon Dog, and the international sausage sizzle will keep everyone well-fed and happy.
The first Aeropress comp took place way back in 2008 in a small room in Oslo, Norway, with only three competitors. Now in its 11th year, each season keeps getting bigger and better, with over 3,000 competitors getting involved in 2018.
General admission tickets start at $25, but VIP weekend passes start at $65.
