Whether it’s Lana Del Ray performing a binding ritual on Donald Trump or Warpaint strutting down the street, screeching out their savage lyrics, there’s something entrancing about a little bit of modern witchiness. It’s the vibe HEX rides on.
Three pagan punk oracles from Auckland, New Zealand, the magic of HEX cannot be denied. They’ve been playing to spellbound local audiences since 2015 and for the first time, they’re making the voyage across the ditch to the land of Oz.
Darkened, desolate and undeniably enthralling, you’ll become utterly bewitched by the raw punk power of New Zealand’s HEX.
The three-way musical fusion of Liz Mathews, GG and Kiki Van Newtown, HEX came together in 2015 with true punk purpose; to stir chaos in a world which is falling increasingly out of control.
Their latest single Page Of Pentacles is this feeling, triple distilled for extra strength. An anthem for self-might and the power of rebellion, it’s no swan-song, rather a potent cry of forceful outrage at a society which herds its citizens like animals.
Punk and rebellion thrive amongst restriction and the turbulence it brings (there’s plenty of history backing that up), and HEX have taken it upon themselves to hold a mirror to the world we live in right now, reflecting back its beauty, faults and everything in between.
Their pagan tendencies form a delirious backdrop to this message, invoking our most basic instinct in a fierce attempt to reject the constricting columns of modern society.
Page of Pentacles follows on from HEX’s late 2016 offering The Moon, a slower cut but one that’s just as thunderous as the latest. Both tracks are marked as early tastes of their debut LP, due out later this year.
