It’s with great sadness that we say American singer songwriter Tom Petty has been taken off of life support following a heart attack.
The LAPD has not revealed details of his death and his spokespeople have refused to comment until more information is gathered around the circumstances of his passing. Although, it has been revealed he was placed on life support before his family acted upon a do not resuscitate request.
Petty, also known as the frontman of Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, had just wrapped up a series of shows with the band.
In addition to his time with The Heartbreakers, Petty was an integral part of the 1988 hit record Traveling Wilburys, Vol. 1. alongside Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, George Harrison and Jeff Lynne. The record reached number three in the charts and went triple Platinum.
An important voice in American music, Petty’s contribution will not be forgotten and we’re all thinking of his family and loved ones at this difficult time.
