I’m still making up my mind on whether Nardwuar The Human Serviette is the world’s greatest music interviewer or the most annoying bloke alive.
When I heard that Nardwuar had conducted an interview with the notoriously hard-assed and outspoken Steve Albini, I knew quality content would follow. I was correct.
Nardwaur The Human Serviette’s interview with Steve Albini is a complete clash of personalities. And it’s absolutely glorious.
Topics from the interview include smashing toilets with Ty Segall, Albini’s pet cockroach Archie, and all the madness that occurred during the recording of Nirvana’s In Utero, such as prank-calling Gene Simmons and lighting farts on fire.
The highlight of the interview, however, comes when Nardwuar prompts the legendary producer with his signature sign-off “Doot doola doot doot,” to which Albini replies “I agree.”
Steve Albini, one of music’s most iconic names, has produced what he estimates to be over 1500 albums for artists including Pixies, PJ Harvey, Cloud Nothings, The Stooges, and a whole heap more.
Similarly, Nardwuar has interviewed an impressive range of acts including Henry Rollins, Iggy Pop, Jello Biafra, Nas, Sonic Youth, King Krule, and of course infamously making Gwar break character in laughter.
The interview took place in Texas earlier this month as part of SXSW conference and festival.
