Announcing his new album, Downhill from Everywhere, Jackson Browne released the music video for his new song, My Cleveland Heart, which features Phoebe Bridgers chowing down on Browne’s poor heart.
Downhill from Everywhere is out on July 23, and to prepare for its grand release, Browne replaces his own worn-out heart with a shiny mechanical one. However, a nurse, played by Bridgers, takes the old heart, being caught post-bite as blood drips down her mouth.
“When I finally get my Cleveland Heart/ They’re made to take a bashin’/ And never lose their passion,” 72-year-old Browne sings as hospital staff rock out.
While we still know very little about Downhill from Everywhere, Browne said in a statement that the album serves as a statement on inclusivity and bridging gaps between difference.
“There’s a deep current of inclusion running through this record,” he said.
“I think that idea of inclusion, of opening yourself up to people who are different than you — that’s the fundamental basis for any kind of understanding in this world.”
On Bridgers cameo, Browne told Rolling Stone that: “I thought it was really appropriate to take out my worn-out, useless heart and hand it to Phoebe.”
“Who better to hand [it] to than somebody young, strong, and possibly as cynical as me?”
