With smiles, sunshine and sandy beaches, Chris Rose’s EP is shaping up to be the Australian dream

Before every Australian summer, you can observe a phenomenon; a string of warm, perky pop tunes emerging out of the woodwork. Coastal rock, bright indie and sunburnt pop are what the country loves, and with the festival season around the corner, artists are wanting to get stuck in your head before the turn of the year.

Now, with December so close you can taste it, this menagerie of feel-good tunes has started to make itself known and one man may have already seized the throne. Chris Rose has brought out We’re Here To Party, a tune so damn happy it makes even us look like Mr. Grumpy.

Shining brighter than the sun on Manly Beach, the latest track from Chris Rose is so damn cheery, it’s impossible not to crack a smile at.

His first offering since his debut 2014 single We Are, the new tune is a more upbeat and accessible take on Rose’s classic singer/songwriter style. The acoustic strumming is more energetic, the lyricism is effortlessly relatable and Rose brings in an electric guitar, subtle bass lines and a brush kit to constitute a larger sound than ever before.

We’re Here To Party sits somewhere between the more modern, acoustic-led songwriting luminaries like Ed Sheeran or Jason Mraz and the more classic, feel-good band vibes of the Beach Boys or The Eagles.

It’s the first track from Rose’s upcoming EP Nowhere Land, due out in early 2017. If We’re Here To Party has the power to cheer up a downtrodden audience, the EP will probably have enough happy energy to change the weather – it’s an endless summer in the bubblegum world of Chris Rose.

Most notably playing to over 40,000 people in Darling Harbour last Australia Day, Rose has more than earned his live chops all over the country. Not even the hampering lockout laws in Sydney can get this guy down:

“Not one of us wants the night to end,
But all the bars are closed by 3am.
Let’s take this party to the beach,
Feel the sand beneath our feet
And watch the waves as they’re rolling in.”
