A new illustrated edition of Patti Smith‘s incredible memoir Just Kids is set to be released this October.
First released in 2010, the book has earned itself numerous accolades, including the illustrious National Book Award.
Patti Smith’s award-winning memoir Just Kids gets new illustrated edition featuring never-before-seen memorabilia and photographs and a new introduction.
The illustrated edition includes a new introduction from Smith, as well as never-before-seen memorabilia and photographs by Judy Linn, Kate Simon, Harry Smith, and more.
Spanning 384 pages, the new hardcover book is due out October 23 via Ecco Books.
The memoir centres around Smith’s relationship with artist Robert Mapplethorpe and recalls her move to New York, her time spent living at the iconic Chelsea Hotel and her budding musicianship.
“I didn’t write it to be cathartic,” she noted in an interview with Classic Rock. “I wrote it because Robert asked me to… Our relationship was such that I knew what he would want and the quality of what he deserved. So that was my agenda for writing that book. I wrote it to fulfil my vow to him, which was on his deathbed.”
