After last week’s music world madness which saw new albums from Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Angel Olsen, Wilco, and more, the release radar seems to have somewhat cooled down (with a few exceptions – absolutely everyone should check out Kim Gordon’s new record which dropped today).
Instead of our usual album roundup, today we’re highlighting five killer new singles which all dropped this week – and all deserve a spot on those magnificent playlists you take too much pride in.
Looking for a few tunes to kick off your Friday listening? Check out these five brilliant new singles – all fresh from this week gone by.
No Mono – Finally
After releasing two of the most inventive records out of Australia in the last few years, No Mono have announced they’re putting the project on hold with their last single Finally.
Accompanied by a monumental video clip directed by Adam Kiers, it’s a fitting send-off to a band who managed to strike such a peculiarly emotional chord with so many listeners.
Psychedelic Porn Crumpets – Mundungus
Skirting to the top of the energy spectrum, Psychedelic Porn Crumpets’ new single Mundungus marks their first new music since third album And Now For The Whatchamacallit back in May.
It’s a wild ride, but if you can hold on for dear life just long enough, it’ll shoot you straight into space. One of the hottest new singles in psych rock of late.
Golden Features & The Presets – Paradise
When two of Australia’s most recognisable big beat makers decided to work together, most expected a track that could start an earthquake. At first impressions that’s hardly true at all.
The Presets and Golden Features’ big collab is surprisingly chill, a shimmering electro track led by some haunting vocal lines from the very recognisable voice box of Julian Hamilton. It’s not going to set any roofing on fire, but it sure is special.
BENEE – Find An Island
New Zealand’s biggest recent pop export BENEE has been hitting nothing but net since day dot. Find An Island is the first new track since her debut EP FIRE ON MARZZ, which dropped not long ago at all in June.
Of the new single, BENNE shared; “This is a song I wrote about my best bud because sometimes ya hate your friends but you always love them.”
Los Bitchos – The Link Is About To Die
Sometimes a band comes along who just feel like the coolest new shit in the world. Right now, London’s Los Bitchos could be that band.
The Link Is About To Die is a slick instrumental jam with roots in ’60s garage and surf rock, a more upbeat cousin to contemporary jam lords Khruangbin. Check it out for yourself below.
