We all saw and either loved or hated Straight Outta Compton. Now Dr. Dre has hit back with a $10m donation to build a performing arts centre at the local high school.
In a statement he revealed that the intent behind the project is to “provide kids with the kind of tools and learning they deserve… The performing arts centre will be a place for young people to be creative in a way that will help further their education and positively define their future.”
The construction of Dr. Dre’s proposed arts centre will involve state of the art digital technology and a 1200 seat theatre, due to begin by 2020.
This gesture comes after Dre promised to donate all royalties from his 2015 album Compton to the community for a performing arts facility. Way to deliver on your word, Doc.
Alongside his financial contributions Dre has made a point of supporting Compton and its music industry, frequenting the area and providing mentorship for young artists including Kendrick Lamar.
