Sampha, the handsome and loveable genius behind last year’s tearjerker Process, has taken out the prestigious Mercury Prize.
This year’s Mercury shortlist included 2017 releases from Alt-J, Stormzy, Ed Sheeran and The xx, amongst others. A dastardly cohort to say the least, so major props to Sampha. This was well deserved.
Up against Alt-J and The xx, Sampha has taken home the Mercury Prize for his beautifully crafted 2017 debut Process. And he’s pretty stoked.
Last year Skepta took home the prize for his filthy, filthy grime release Konnichiwa. Previous winners of the Mercury Prize include Arctic Monkeys, Franz Ferdinand, PJ Harvey and James Blake. The xx and Alt-J, both nominees in 2017, won the award in 2010 and 2012 respectively.
