Aussie hero Lakyn is feeling on top of his game right now, having released two bang up singles this year (with more to come, apparently) and announcing his own headline tour. Between all that and having dance battles with robotic kittens, he’s been a busy lad.
But he’s hardly the only artist doing great things on our shores. Ahead of his upcoming string of shows we wanted to hear a little more about Lakyn, so we asked him to share the five Aussie artists he’s vibing on right now.
If you’re into the beautiful noise Lakyn has been making lately, dive into 5 of the Australian acts the man himself can’t get enough of.
Hiatus Kaiyote
I think these guys are from the future, they’re way ahead of all of us. The Mad Max of music. The complexities of their beats always keep you on your toes. Their amps may not be turned to 11 but there is no napping to these tunes.
Big Words
A Melbourne band, and they’ve got a lot of vibe. I don’t know much of their music but I think they’ll do big things. They are towing that fine line between soul, hip-hop and RnB and doing a bang up job of it.
Kwasi
My homie Kwasi from Melbourne brings the fiyah, he gets turnt and has bars to back it up. Saddle up and get ready for some seriously smooth rhymes tailor made to play as the soundtrack to your summer.
Winston Surfshirt
I only just recently saw Mr. Surfshirt’s Like A Version, I’m hyped to see some good vibes brewing in Aus. Although I heard him interviewed, and do I detect an accent? Does this still count? Oh well I’m sticking with it. After all, who amongst us can say that they don’t love Sponge Cake?
Joy
Ethereal soundscape Queen, probably my favourite female artist or vocalist in the country. I think she has some new tunes coming out soon as well!
