Renowned director David Fincher is taking on his next feature-length film, Mank – an all black-and-white Netflix biopic. The biographical picture will chronicle the legend of screenwriter “Citizen Kane” Herman Mankiewicz, to be played by Gary Oldman.
Nicknamed Mank, Mankiewicz was the newspaper man turned screenwriter who is best known for collaborating with Orson Welles on the iconic 1941 movie Citizen Kane.
David Fincher and Gary Oldman are teaming up to helm the legend of “Citizen Kane” Herman Mankiewicz for Mank, an all black-and-white Netflix biopic.
The Netflix film will tell the story of this epic writer who had such an influence on the Golden Age of Hollywood. Which is why they’ve made the call to keep it classic and shoot the entire motion picture in black and white, old school vibes.
And if there weren’t any more layers to add to the story of a story, read this: David Fincher’s father, Howard “Jack” Fincher, also a newspaperman, wrote the script before passing away in 2003.
So the director Fincher has been pining to make this story come alive on camera for at least twenty years, as he initially wanted to start back in 1997 after he finished The Game. Over twenty years later, the cameras will be rolling on this one before the end of 2019.
This will be Fincher’s first feature-length film since Gone Girl in 2014. He’s also directed for Netflix’s groundbreaking original TV series House of Cards and Mindhunter.
Fincher will produce Mank alongside producing partner Cean Chaffin and Douglas Urbanski.
