Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke has announced he is dropping a solo album named ANIMA and it’s coming sooner than we thought, with the release date set for the 27th of June.
On top of this massive news, Yorke has teamed up with American filmmaker and long-time friend Paul Thomas Anderson on a short film also entitled ANIMA, to be streamed on Netflix that same day.
Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke is releasing a new solo album ANIMA alongside a ‘musical’ short film to be made available on Netflix.
Defined in the Netflix trailer as a ‘one reeler’ – “a motion picture, especially a cartoon or comedy, of 10-12 minutes duration and contained on one reel of film; popular especially in the era of silent films”, ANIMA is sure to turn (Radio) heads, featuring three of the nine tracks off the upcoming album.
The record is not Yorke’s first release of the year, with the unearthing of seven unheard tracks from his film score for the cult horror classic Suspiria in February as well as a debut of his classical pieces on BBC radio.
The album ANIMA will be an exploration of the themes of anxiety and dystopia , with the music icon telling Crack magazine:
“I thought a really good way of expressing anxiety creatively was in a dystopian environment.”
