Instrument manufacturer D’Addario have announced they will begin production of protective face shields made from drumheads.
D’Addario, primarily known for their range of guitar strings, is the parent company of Evans Drumheads. They are set to transform the Evans G2 two-ply drumheads into face shields for medical workers during the coronavirus pandemic.
D’Addario, famously known as a guitar string manufacturer, have announced they will now be producing protective face shields from Evans drumheads.
D’Addario say their goal is to be in production by April 27, reaching a maximum output of 100,000 shields a week some time shortly after that.
Headquartered in New York State, D’Addario has named the production Project Excelsior after the New York State motto. D’Addario plan on continuing production of the face shields for as long as they are needed in New York or elsewhere around the world.
D’Addario were forced to close their string and drumhead factories in New York, but under their pre-existing Dynatomy brand, used to produce physical therapy products, D’Addario was able to pivot quickly into manufacturing and distributing these face shields.
Jim D’Addario, Chief Innovation Officer at D’Addario, commented:
“We’ve watched the incredible efforts of our healthcare and essential services workers all across the world with great admiration. While we cannot match the immeasurable efforts of these selfless heroes, we feel an immense responsibility to do our part in overcoming the COVID-19 crisis.”
