Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has assured BBC Radio 2 that the band’s final record will be released in 2025.
Speaking with BBC host Jo Whiley, Martin clarified, “Our last proper record will come out in 2025 and after that, I think we will only tour… Maybe we’ll do some collaborative things but the Coldplay catalogue, as it were, finishes then”.
In October, Martin told NME that the band plans on releasing a total of 12 albums, “We’re going to make 12 albums. Because it’s a lot to pour everything into making them. I love it and it’s amazing, but it’s very intense too.”
Coldplay released their ninth studio album, Music of the Spheres, earlier this year. So going off what Martin said, it looks like we can expect another three albums before the end of 2025.
In October, the London band announced that they’re planning an eco-friendly World Tour in 2022 by using off-grid energy sources, but admitted that there’s still “quite a long way to go” to achieve a tour that is completely net-zero.
We’re only speculating, but the amount of work Coldplay are putting into low-emission shows suggests that the band will continue touring for a solid while.
