Lizzo said she’s “Black Taylor Swift” but she’s not monogamous

Lizzo rightfully likened herself to one of the world’s biggest pop stars after documenting a lot of her love life on her recent album.

Lizzo has dropped her latest album Special and it has us feeling just that! It goes without saying that Lizzo has earned the right to call herself a superstar which is why no one batted an eye when the queen of fabulous herself said she’s the “Black Taylor Swift”.

The About Damn Time singer recently appeared on The Breakfast Club radio show where she discussed writing songs about her relationships.

While chatting to host Charlemagne Tha God, Angela Yee and DJ Envy, Lizzo said: “All my songs are about things that happen to me,”

DJ Envy went on to ask if that means she would sing about the people she dates and the three-time Grammy winner replied with, “Absolutely. I’m Black Taylor Swift. I really am. I’m trifling.”

Lizzo was of course referring to the many songs Tay Sway has written about her relationship history.

Although it should be said that while Taylor has had a plethora of dating drama to write about (who hasn’t?) she has always been private about certain details. The pop star still has never confirmed the subject of 2012’s infamous All Too Well.

Lizzo seems to be following suit with the privacy although we can confirm the track Break Up Twice from her new album is about her current partner, Myke Wright.

“I talked to my girlfriends yesterday” Lizzo sings.

“They reminded me of when you had me crying in my car,
And when you came to my barbecue, they all gave you attitude,
Well, shoot, every reason they mad at you is true,”

The trend-setting singer recounted that day on the radio show and told the hosts that a “certain gentleman” (obvs her boyf) was over at her house for a barbecue when a friend of her approached him and said, “If you fuck with her, I’m going to slash your motherfucking tires.”

Lizzo said she reacted with equal parts “Oh my god,” and “damn, that’s real love.”

The singer also went on to say things have been going well with her man ever since and while she didn’t name him, she joked about how she recently did a “soft launch” of their relationship on Instagram but it wouldn’t be until they walk a red carpet together that things are really getting serious.

Lizzo also mentioned that she doesn’t thin monogamy is for her.

“I think a traditional relationship scares me for 10 years, but love is forever. I can love somebody forever,” Lizzo said.

“Monogamy, I think to me, is a little claustrophobic — I think because there’s the rules.”

“I think a love relationship that’s not monogamous has no rules,”

“I think people who do poly and all that stuff — there’s still rules. I don’t want any rules,” Lizzo continued.

“But that doesn’t mean I’m out here fucking and sucking and ducking. It doesn’t mean he is either. It just means that there are no expectations, and that way, the love gets to just be the main event.”
