Margaret Urlich, 57, has passed away after a two-year cancer battle. The NZ-born, Australia-based singer died in her NSW home yesterday.
ARIA-winning artist, Margaret Urlich, well-known for singing beside Daryl Braithwraite in the 1991 hit, The Horses died yesterday (August 22) following a two-year battle with cancer. According to reports, the 57-year-old Platinum-awarded hitmaker passed away in her home, in the Southern Highlands of NSW, surrounded by family members including her partner and manager, George Gorga.
Margaret’s cousin, Peter Urlich told the publication Stuff this morning that she was “the most beautiful woman inside and out.” He continued, “the funny thing was that forever, everyone presumed she was my sister. ‘How’s your sister doing in Oz?’ they’d ask. In the end, I just gave in. It’s a terrible shame that we never saw more of her.”
The announcement of Margaret Urlich’s passing has been met with an outpouring of tributes across social media, from fans and stars alike. Network 10 host, Angela Bishop said via Twitter: “One of the most beautiful voices to come out of New Zealand has fallen silent. Margaret Urlich has passed away at the age of 57, two years after being diagnosed with cancer. She won the ARIA for Breakthrough Artist in 1991 and sang BVs on Daryl Braithwaite’s hit The Horses. Vale.”
