As if his mammoth 2023 calendar wasn’t enough already, Sydney-based musician Boy Soda has returned with a sultry new single, SIP.
Boy Soda has released his first offering of 2023, a futuristic taste of R&b titled SIP. From the outset, Boy Soda commands listeners with demands to “pay attention,” with bouncy production underscoring his message of resorting to one’s vices as a coping mechanism.
Dotted by distorted vocal asides and acrobatic rap cadences, the single serves as a worthy evolution of Boy Soda’s continually progressive sound.
“The song lives… speaks to people’s vices, and the relationship between having fun and knowing your limits,” Boy Soda explained in a press statement. “It’s an ode to trying to make conscious decisions when you’re too wavy.”
SIP marks the Sydney crooner’s first music of the year, and follows on from the release of his debut EP THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THINKING AND FEELING and mixtape YC-TAPE: Vol. 1 in 2022.
Earlier this year, Boy Soda performed the mixtape cut Body live from Happy Studios, alongside a co-headline tour with Taj Ralph and an appearance at Live Nation’s Ones To Watch event in Melbourne.
Elsewhere, Boy Soda has teamed up with Converse to launch SODA SESSIONS, A NEW SERIES dedicated to unreleased music and artist-to-artist conversations.
The series has so far welcomed fellow artists Cyrus and Billy Maree, with the most recent instalment shining a spotlight on Ruby Jackson. SODA SESSIONS will see the singer perform unheard tracks from his vault, as well as lead insightful conversations about artistry, influences and culture.
SIP adds to an already mammoth year for Boy Soda, who opened for Seth Sentry on his national tour, hosted a showcase at BIGSOUND, and found his way onto the soundtrack of Netflix smash hit, Heartbreak High.
