PREMIERE: Fripps & Fripps offer the first taste of their new era with introspective new single Shame

Fripps & Fripps redefine their sound with the new single ‘Shame’: a confident, introspective taste of their forthcoming debut album.

Sydney natives Fripps & Fripps are taking a leap forward in their career, with a debut album slated for release in 2024, Shame marks a development of sound and confidence, antithetical as it may be to its premise.

A blend of pop, rap, and indie, Shame is delightfully sure of itself. Emotive, melodically explorative, and soothing, Shame is a lamentation on releasing the emotion, an introspective glance at the past, and a new way forward.

Thick interspersed bass lines and tight, hat-based grooves make for a captivating backbone for growth and experimentation. Dynamically layered and smartly structured, Shame holds your attention without sacrificing any of the sonic adventures it wishes to take.

Relaxed and yearning, Shame is a dichotomous experience, though one that is broadly accessible and enjoyable, even without diving deeper into Fripps & Fripps somewhat existential lyricism.

Distinctly Australian, Shame is a blend of the country’s most successful genres. A slightly groovier Spacey Jane, or a more emotive Hilltop Hoods, Fripps & Fripps feel as if they themselves could become a staple of the nation’s most prized exports.

Recorded at The Aviary in Melbourne, Shame marks the first time the men have teamed with Alex Markwell. This working relationship may very well be the missing piece, one that has fulfilled a vision and cemented a course.

Fripps & Fripps are no strangers to attention for their music, but even they seem to sense a shift with Shame. Reminiscent of early Great Gable and Sticky Fingers (minus the problematic behavior) Fripps & Fripps lock into something preexisting and carve it into something of their own.

There is a seasoned quality to Shame, a sense that these musicians have been refining their craft and cutting their teeth for so long that it is impossible for them to do anything without confidence and precision.

It engenders excitement at all there is to come for Fripps & Fripps, along with an acceptance that this is merely the beginning and a solid start at that.
