This summer will see Sydney hosting its very own Studio Ghibli Festival. The festival will be held at Art Gallery NSW in the Domain Theatre and will screen Spirited Away, Kiki’s Delivery Service and more.
This huge slice of Japanese culture looks to be a real treat for everyone, from the experienced Ghibli veteran to the newbie film fan.
Sydney is getting a slice of Japan with this summer’s Studio Ghibli Festival. Enjoy a primer on one of the most iconic animation studios of all time.
For years Studio Ghibli has inspired people around the world with its unique storytelling and breathtaking art style. Studio head and animation legend Hayao Miyazaki was inspired by the traditions of folklore and fantasy in Japanese art. Subsequently, his ideas would go onto to represent the benchmark of Japanese animation and inspire great shows like Adventure Time and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Sydney’s Studio Ghibli Festival will honour this legacy with a host of screenings. Accordingly, every Saturday at 2pm, from the January 11th to February 8th, the Art Gallery will screen one of five films. Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Pom Poko, Princess Mononoke and Kiki’s Delivery Service are all on the list.
Tickets are $12 a pop and are an absolute steal considering the films’ limited cinema runs. Regardless, this festival is the perfect way for film and anime lovers to kick-off 2020 right.
