Adam Sandler teams up with the Safdie Brothers on a new film project, and Netflix is on board: “It’s gonna be very exciting.”
Adam Sandler has announced he’s joining forces with the Safdie Brothers once again. Following the trio’s widely-celebrated work in the 2019 movie, Uncut Gems, Sandler has confirmed that he will be starring in their next feature-length film, which will commence production in 2023.
The forthcoming project will be made available to stream via Netflix, which is reportedly on board with the project. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly published earlier this year, Adam Sandler declared that he is “going to do another movie with the Safdie brothers.”
The actor continued, “they’re working hard on it. Their work ethic is bananas. They’re always working, always writing, always thinking. I don’t know what I can tell you, but it’s gonna be very exciting. It’s different. But I don’t want them to ever say, ‘What the hell did you tell him that for?’ So I’ll just let them talk [about it].”
The acclaimed writing/directing duo, comprising brothers Josh and Benny Safdie, are “incredible filmmakers” according to Sandler. He told EW back in April, “I love these guys, I love ’em…Of course, I would die to work with them again, because it’s a brand new feeling. But the funniest thing is when I would say to the Safdies, ‘Your future is so bright,’ they didn’t want to talk about that. They were like, ‘I just like ‘Gems,’ man.’ They just were so deep in it.”
The forthcoming movie project will be the latest chapter in Adam Sandler’s partnership with Netflix. Back in 2014, the Happy Gilmore star signed a production agreement with the streaming platform, making Netflix the exclusive home of films created via his Happy Madison Productions company.
Specific details on the impending film’s plot or prospective cast list have not been made public as of yet, but we will be keeping our eyes peeled for updates.
