Banff's single Stand In Line in an impressive folk pop debut

Banff – Stand In Line

At less than three months old, Banff is the new solo project by Brisbane-based Benjamin Forbes, frontman of Brisbane indie rock group Little Casino. With his delicately folk-soaked, indie pop melodies, it’s not hard to see why the singer-songwriter has been making waves in the blogosphere so rapidly.

Solo project of Little Casino’s frontman, Banff, is folk inspired indie pop – already set to soar with the brilliantly evocative debut single Stand In Line.

Influenced by a telling assortment of artists – Midlake, The War on Drugs, Glenn Richards, Wilco – Banff does not fail to deliver. Typically known for Little Casino’s reverberating melodies and 60’s-inspired, guitar-driven Britrock evocative of The Black Keys and The Stone Roses, Forbes decided to venture down a road less travelled. Forbes sought out Tom Iansek (Big Scary and #1 Dads), and together at Big Scary’s Mixed Business studio in Melbourne, created a brooding and endearingly honest collection of tracks – case in point, debut single Stand In Line.

Released less than a few weeks ago, Banff’s first single has already clocked an impressive 76,000 listens (and counting) on SoundCloud. Stand In Line is a stunning first offering from the Brisbane indie folk singer, a soaring indie pop tune driven by impeccable production and Benjamin’s killer vocal performance. The smooth, powerful instrumentation builds to an emotive crescendo, which eases into rolling folk melodies and gentle brass and piano. A beautifully light acoustic track with an understated, mellow undertone – Stand in Line is likely an indicator of what’s to come from the rising new talent.

The soulful singer has just finished recording his debut EP Future Self with Tom Iansek, who’s clearly got an ear for up-and-coming Aussie artists. Future Self will be released early next year via Melbourne label We Are Golden.

Banff will perform his first live show supporting local legends Mosman Alder at The Brightside in Brisbane on December 19th. Grab your tickets here for what’s bound to be an incredible first live performance from the rising singer-songwriter.
