Grunge princess Courtney Love has shared a heartfelt letter in memory of her late husband, Kurt Cobain. The letter was shared on Instagram, honouring what would’ve been their 28th wedding anniversary.
Love has also shared an unseen photo of the couple on their wedding day in Honolulu, Hawaii in 1992. Prepare yourself, this one’s a tear-jerker.
Love and Cobain were married just months into their romantic relationship. Their daughter, Francis Bean Cobain, was born only six months after their wedding.
Love writes, “28 years ago, we got married, in Honolulu, on Waikiki beach.
“28 years ago, I recall feeling, deeply, delighted, dizzy, so in love, and knowing how lucky I was. This man was an angel.”
Love and Cobain dominated the 90’s, with Cobain as the frontman of Nirvana and Love rising to fame with her band Hole. Kurt Cobain dies just 2 years after their marriage, his death was ruled a suicide. Love reminisces on her past with and without Cobain, almost 26 years after his death.
She writes,
“I thank him for looking out for me, many parts of the last 28 years have been torturous chaotic and uphill, and in public? That is the darkest shit imaginable, it almost tapped my resilience, almost. but between Kurt’s strange amazing divinity, and the honor of a few true friends, the gift of desperation and sobriety. Of a Higher power and of love, and of empathy , I’m here now. It’ll be ok, fuck, I see him on the shore. Rocking in the free world. My husband.“
