Dev Patel has become an unexpected hero in a suburban knife fight.

Best known for his roles in Slumdog Millionaire and Lion, English actor Dev Patel, has become the unsuspecting hero in a knife fight in Adelaide, Australia.

The ‘Green Knight’ actor Dev Patel who is currently residing in Adelaide with his partner, Adelaide-born actress Tilda Cobham-Hervey, who starred alongside him in his 2018 film Hotel Mumbai has become the unexpected hero in a suburban knife fight.

Patel took it upon himself to step in to try to break up a knife fight he witnessed outside of a convenience store in Adelaide, Australia. The actor was captured on camera with police, by 7NEWS after witnessing a woman stab a man in the chest with a knife on Gouger Street, just after 8.45 pm on Monday evening.

Patel’s reps have issued a statement, saying “Dev acted on his natural instinct to try and de-escalate the situation and break up the fight. The group was thankfully successful in doing so, and they remained on site to ensure that the police and eventually the ambulance arrived.”

The 34-year-old man from Glengowrie who was injured in the attack was brought to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The offender, a 34 woman from Park Holme was arrested and charged with aggravated assault causing harm. The police have issued a staement, sharing that the pair are known to each other, and that the incident was not random.

“This specific incident highlights a larger systemic issue of marginalized members of society not being treated with the dignity and respect they deserve,” Patel’s reps continued. “The hope is that the same level of media attention this story is receiving (solely because Dev, as a famous person, was involved) can be a catalyst for lawmakers to be compassionate in determining long-term solutions to help not only the individuals who were involved but the community at large.”

 

The woman was charged with aggravated assault causing harm and has been refused bail. She was to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
