Dive into Honey Hayze’s irresistible new single Afternoon

Since forming in 2018, Sydney-based outfit Honey Hayze have been oozing out a unique brand of rich and crooning alt-rock. Their music feels equal parts laid-back and energetic—it’s grounded in gooey grooves, but reaches into myriad sonic territories.

Now, with the release of their new single Afternoon, the group have further developed their sounds into something truly hypnotic. If you’re not already familiar with this band, we strongly recommend you change that.

On their new single Afternoon, Sydney-based outfit Honey Hayze ooze out an irresistible blend of genre-bending brilliance.

Throughout the new single, Honey Hayze glide through a blissful concoction of indie-rock, funk, dub, and psych to craft a sound distinctly their own. With infectiously woozy instrumentation and deep, resonant vocal hooks, Afternoon showcases the band’s effortless, genre-bending brilliance.

Within its punchy three-and-a-half-minute duration, the track explores a variety of musical areas—it never sits in one place for too long. Sultry saxophone lines are woven seamlessly with shimmering keys, while jungle-like drums beats lay the bed for vocalist Earl Weir’s low vocal tones. By the time the track reaches its conclusion, you’ll have been roped in completely by Honey Hayze’s infectious blend of sounds.

These still may be relatively early days for this Sydney outfit, but judging by everything we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more great tunes.
