Dolly Parton receives $100M from Amazon founder, Jeff Bezos, to spend on charity: “I will do my best to do good things with this money.”

Executive chairman and founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos announced via Twitter on Sunday (November 13) that he is giving Dolly Parton $100 million for her philanthropic efforts.

We’ve just announced a new Courage and Civility award recipient — @DollyParton, who leads with her heart, and will put this $100 million award to great use helping so many people,” declared Bezos. She joins prior awardees, @VanJones68 and @Chefjoseandres. Congrats, Dolly!”

Dolly Parton is entitled to allocate the $100 million to whatever charitable causes she chooses to support. At present, her ongoing philanthropic efforts include the Imagination Libary – a literacy project aimed to help young children, which Parton launched in 1995.

In response to receiving the Courage and Civility award, Dolly Parton Tweeted, “I try to put my money where my heart is. I will do my best to do good things with this money. Thank you @JeffBezos #LaurenSanchez.”

In other Jeff Bezos news, the acclaimed entrepreneur recently announced that he’s giving away most of his $124 billion net worth throughout his lifetime, to support the battle against climate change, as well as other sociopolitical divisions burdening humanity.

During an exclusive interview with CNN, he and his partner Lauren Sanchez declared that they are “building the capacity to be able to give away this money.”  While it appears they are yet to divulge specific details on how they intend to go about this philanthropic endeavour, we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for updates.
