Famed pop figure Billie Eilish appeared at the National Democratic Convention last night to give a speech urging people to participate in the upcoming election.
On Wednesday evening, Billie Eilish made an appearance on the third and penultimate night of the National Democratic Convention to give the debut performance of her song my future, as well as a stirring speech.
At 18 years old, Eilish made history by being the youngest person to ever perform in the convention’s history.
The singer was introduced by host Kerry Washington and prior to her performance, she gave a passionate address, urging people to vote.
“You don’t need me to tell you things are a mess — Donald Trump is destroying our country and everything we care about,” Eilish began. “We need leaders who will solve problems like climate change and COVID, not deny them; leaders who will fight against systemic racism and inequality. And that starts by voting for someone who understands how much is at stake; someone who is building a team that shares our values.”

“Silence is not an option and we cannot sit this one out,” she described later. “We all have to vote like our lives and the world depend on it — because they do.”

Eilish then gave the first-ever live performance of her latest song my future, accompanied as always by her brother Finneas, as well as a drummer, and more unusually – a dog.
It’s not the first time the singer has used her platform to voice concerns on political and social issues. Earlier this year she joined Woody Harrelson for a video calling for action on climate change, also revealing that she was now making her tours eco-friendly. More recently Eilish has advocated for the Black Lives Matter movement, spoken out against body shamers, and encouraged her first-time voter fans to participate in the upcoming election.
