Dr. Dre delivered a heartfelt speech whilst introducing Eminem on stage during the 2022 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony.
On Saturday night (November 5), during the 37th annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, Dr. Dre gave an endearing speech about rapper Eminem, his long-term friend and collaborator. He reflected on his first encounters with the Lose Yourself hitmaker, his rise to fame, and his admiration for Eminem’s talent.
“There was a massive amount of resistance from my own team, and people around me, that didn’t want me to work with him, simply because he was white. Didn’t want me to sign him or anything like that,” explained Dr. Dre. “While everyone else around me had their doubts, I knew his gifts were undeniable.”
He continued, “his raw, dark, humourous lyrics, coupled with impeccable gains, stood out from everything I had ever heard before. And he was humble. Both of us were. We were two artists in dire situations. He was desperate to find a way to feed his family, and I was searching for something that I could sink my teeth into creatively.”
Dr. Dre added: “Each of us was what the other one needed — and I was willing to bet my entire career on it.” Watch the entire induction speech via YouTube below.
