‘Elden Ring’ network test codes are fetching as much as $500 on eBay

The Elden Ring network test is one of the most anticipated video game events of 2021, and people are paying outrageous sums of money on eBay to get their hands on a coveted access code.

Gamers all across the world are super hyped to play FromSoftware’s eagerly awaited spiritual successor to the Dark Souls games. However, only the luckiest of us were actually selected to be part of the Elden Ring network test, which gives players access to a considerable amount of content during a few time-sensitive windows.

Unsurprisingly, as is usually the case whenever something is highly sought after, there are a bunch of dickheads trying to make a few sleazy dollars out of fans’ desperation. And if eBay is to be believed, it appears to be going entirely according to their plan.

Elden Ring network test codes are being listed with some regularity, and are fetching far more than I would have ever guessed. At the end of the day, these codes only get players access to a few hours of gameplay, during a few select time periods. It’s essentially an exclusive demo that will have the power turned off after the weekend.

Yet still, players want to play. And they are reportedly willing to pay as much as $500 on eBay to circumvent Bandai Namco’s selection process.

There are definite shades of the next-gen console scarcity situation, which has seen PS5s become nearly impossible to get ahold of, and consequently very expensive on marketplace websites such as eBay. However, a console is at least yours to keep after you pay money for it, whereas an Elden Ring network test code loses all value and usefulness in just a few days.

So don’t kneel to them, no matter how much you want to. These unscrupulous scalper types are the last people you want to be giving your hard earned cash to, so save it and your time for when Elden Ring officially releases in February 2022.

We’ve waited this long already – a few more months will make its arrival all the more sweet.
