At a gig over the weekend at Brooklyn’s Rough Trade, Stranger Thing’s star Finn Wolfhard and his Vancouver based band Calpurnia covered The Velvet Underground’s Here She Comes Now, off the their 1968 White Light/White Heat album.
“This song goes out to Lou Reed, and uh, Hulk Hogan,” Wolfhard said, before ripping through the track.
Finn Wolfhard has confirmed that he’s definitely still cooler than you by covering The Velvet Underground at his band’s Brooklyn show.
Throughout the gig, Calpurnia also covered Pixies‘ Where Is My Mind, Weezer’s El Scorcho, Twin Peaks‘ Butterfly, as well as a whole heap of originals set to feature on the band’s upcoming debut EP, produced by Twin Peaks front-man Cadien Lake James and scheduled for release later this month.
This comes after the announcement that the band had signed to Mac Demarco, METZ and PUP’s label Royal Mountain Records.
“My dad and my mom used to play that kind of music in the car when I was a baby. And then my mom introduced me to the Beatles, and I got obsessed with the Beatles, and then I just went from there,” Wolfhard says of his introduction to music.
Wolfhard has also recently featured in PUP’s music video for Sleep In The Heat, been called up to play on stage alongside label-mate Mac Demarco, and covered tracks by Nirvana and New Order.
