“Friday the 13th” prequel series “Crystal Lake”

Peacock, the home of ‘Bates Motel’, ‘Downton Abbey’ and ‘Below Deck’,  has announced that a “Friday the 13th” prequel series titled “Crystal Lake” is coming to the streaming service.

If you haven’t seen the film that started it all, the original American slasher Friday the 13th, you have some serious catching up to do. And if nothing else, at least watch the first film, which stars a very young Kevin Bacon.

The prequel to Friday the 13th series comes from producers at A24 and writer and showrunner Bryan Fuller. Fuller has a string of commercial hits under his belt, with Hannibal, and American Gods having received critical success.

There are high expectations for a quality show. The self-professed Star Trek fan has earned to date twenty-two episode writing credits for the Star Trek franchise and has said he’s been thinking about this particular horror story since he was a kid.

Susan Rovner, from NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, has shared in a statement.“Friday the 13th is one of the most iconic horror franchises in movie history and we were dying to revisit this story with our upcoming drama series Crystal Lake,” Adding “We can’t wait to get to work with Bryan Fuller, a gifted, visionary creator who I’ve had the pleasure of being a longtime friend and collaborator,”

“I discovered Friday the 13th in the pages of Famous Monsters magazine when I was 10 years old and I have been thinking about this story ever since,” Fuller shared in a statement.

Marc Toberoff, Victor Miller and Rob Barsamian will also executive produce the show. Series details are being kept under wraps for now.

No word as yet if and when it will be coming to Australian screens, but keep tuned.
