What’s on this weekend: Happy’s picks for Sydney’s gigs

Still not sure how to spend your weekend? Happy’s got it covered with our favourite gigs this weekend.

It’s pretty simple – after combing through gig after gig, we have accumulated a list of some personal favourites that are playing this weekend in Sydney. From death metal to bedroom pop to post-punk to electro, there’s a price-savvy gig here for everyone.

Friday

It’s that time of the year again folks!

Hop on down to Waywards at the Bank Hotel to join us in celebrating the release of The Western Sydney Issue.

With a killer lineup of indie-pop princess Ūla, hazy genre-bending FRIDAY*, RnB boy-band Breakfast Road and incredibly dreamy The Great West, you’d be kicking yourself if you didn’t come.

As if that wasn’t enough, the event is not only FREE, but you can grab a magazine for $0 instead of the usual $12 (that means you essentially get $12 for free #girlmath)

Dip

Would it really be a gig guide if I didn’t include Canned Heat at Yulli’s Brewery?

This week, the brewery will be hosting a band that’s described as ‘avant-garde garage punk but cool as shit’, Dip.

Come have a taste of the band that is slowly taking over the Sydney music scene.

Joining them is The Fungus, a hard rock/metal band.

Bread Club

Finally, a Bread Club that is both gluten-free and TASTY.

The obscenely funky, groovy and feel-good Bread Club is back and gracing the stages of the House of Music & Booze, with indie hip-hop artist Hey! Astro and indie-rock band The Sooks.

Bust out your various flared pieces of clothing and your favourite bread (White Vienna Loaf, personally) and join in the party.

Saturday

Debaser Events is turning one and they are celebrating in STYLE.

As if they haven’t done enough for the Sydney music scene already, they are having a birthday for the ages, with an incredible lineup that includes (but is not limited to); Maia Toakley, Liquid Zoo and Bodywire.

On top of live music, there is also a limited press photobook (and an exhibition featuring 1400 shots they couldn’t fit in the book!) with shots of gigs and exhibitions put on by Debaser this past year.

Finally, there will be a garage sale of merch from bands who have played the events in the past year.

Ghost Care

Come celebrate Perth locals Ghost Care’s latest release, the indie-rock synth-infused Arcade at Waywards at the Bank.

Joining them will be Sydney icons Jet City Sports Club and GRXCE.

It’s going to be a feel-good night all round.

Quality Used Cars

Much like their name, Quality Used Cars delivers quality alt-country tenderness.

They’re travelling through Victoria and NSW to celebrate their second album, Quality of Life and will be touching down on the Vic on the Park stage with friend Nick Griffith to play some free quality music.

Sunday

This event at the Petersham Bowlo is giving you a chance to indulge in some incredible music and get better informed about the upcoming vote for the referendum – talk about getting two birds stoned!

With a delectable mix of genres like the indie-dance-rnb Awa MBaye, pop-punk Wig and indie rockers Local Correspondents, its the perfect way to spend a Sunday.
