Happy Mag’s official guide to Festival of the Sun 2018!

Summer is coming! The sun is shining, birds are singing, and Festival of the Sun is right around the corner! Now in its fifteenth year, FOTSUN is New South Wales’ longest running BYO festival. To celebrate the occasion, the team at FOTSUN have gifted fans with their most insane lineup to date.

Port Macquarie, brace yourself for the biggest weekend of the year: Festival of the Sun is right around the corner!

Here at Happy Mag, we’re for the people. We want to help you have the best weekend of the year, so we’ve curated an official guide to Festival of the Sun 2018!

Theme

This year’s Festival of the Sun theme is… Cirque du FOTSUN! Make sure you wear your best circus-themed get-ups to get into the mood. Dress up is optional, but who doesn’t love a little costume change?

It’s BYO

Yes, that’s right. Festival of the Sun is strictly BYO; there are no bars on site. The full terms and conditions of alcohol consumption should be on the ticket, but, to reiterate: no glass, no kegs and definitely no beer bongs. As with all festivals, there is a strict no-drug policy. Management reserves the right to ban any drinks that are deemed unnecessarily high in alcohol, too. That means no Fat Lambs! Be safe, be responsible. Festival of the Sun is a family-friendly environment (kids under 12 are permitted entry with a parent), so don’t be stupid. Make sure it’s a good time for everyone.

Camping and Car Passes

Camping is included in the ticket price! Amazing! But there is a strict no car camping policy, so make sure you’ve got all your camping gear ready. Hot showers are available for festival-goers, too, so you won’t have to feel clammy all weekend.

If you’re driving, make sure to register for a car pass. If you don’t have a car, Festival of the Sun has a very convenient drop-off zone. Get your friends together and organise a taxi, an Uber, a parent, a Tindr date, whatever. The drop-off zone is directly in front of the entry gate.

You can bring your pushbike to the festival if you’re two-wheel inclined. Pimp your pushbike for a chance to win a prize.

FOTSUN Thursday

The festival kicks off on Thursday with a massive food truck lineup, silent comedy performances, art workshops, and a silent disco. An artist village will be set up on the festival grounds, so you can buy one-off prints and support local artists. FOTSUN Thursday’s theme is wabi-sabi, the Japanese world-view of transience and imperfection. Try your hand at graffiti, spend some time at the Glitter Bar, sign up for one of Rhi Rebellion’s free craft workshops and let your creative juices flow.

The Music

The most important part of any festival. This year’s FOTSUN lineup is bigger and better than ever, so prioritising bands can be difficult. We recommend catching sets by Body Type, CLEWS, Pist Idiots and Pond. The official set times are yet to be released, but watch this space.
