Out of the United States, Hurray for The Riff Raff are coming to Australia for Bluesfest and now a few sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne.
Fronted by Alynda Segarra, this is band whose sound is a marriage of many cultures and stories.
Traversing the busking culture of Segarra’s early musical experiences from the shores of Puerto Rico to The Bronx and New Orleans, Hurray for the Riff Raff is a kaleidoscope of global sounds.
With huge influence from the likes of Rodriguez, their blues, Latin inspired sound is one which is perfectly suited to Bluesfest and their extra shows are likely to bring a huge vibe. With political undertones and a powerful intent, Hurray for the Riff Raff are bringing the noise as well as stories of struggle and empowerment.
Segarra describes their latest album The Navigator as being about “this girl who grows up in a city that’s like New York, who’s a street kid, like me when I was little, that has a special place in the history of her people.”
Sideshow tickets are on sale Friday November 17th. Grab yours here.
