Jack River (aka Holly Rankin) is an artist with a vision for positive change; someone who strongly believes that art and activism should go hand in hand.
Now, Rankin is using her platform to voice environmental, social, cultural and political issues through the form of a new podcast, To Rebel In The Times.
To Rebel In The Times will see Jack River discuss environmental, social, cultural and political issues with some of the music industry’s most influential voices.
Rankin was inspired to create a podcast after interviewing Peter Garrett, Midnight Oil’s frontman and one of Australia’s most well-known environmental activists. While her passion was always there, it was the lockdown forced upon her due to the global COVID-19 pandemic, which really allowed her to start working on the project. After countless hours of research, Zoom dates and audio edits, To Rebel In The Times was born, providing a new and exciting space for Jack River to talk all things change, music and the times.
Speaking about the new podcast, River stated:
“In my career so far, I’ve found that my activism and will for change sit right beside my art – often inspiring it. I want to make a little space for deep conversation and make time to talk about the complexities and drives of change in this time we are living in.
“We are living in such a huge time, undergoing intense culture shifts, wrangling the upheaval of old ideas and (hopefully) replacing them with something better. With To Rebel In The Times, I wanted to know where artists’ minds are at, especially the artists who have made it their life and art’s work to create change, and why it is so important to them that they use their voice, that they stand up and not only say something, but do something,”
The first series of her podcast is titled Sounds of Change and will see Jack River deliver a new episode every week for six weeks. Guests include Tim Nelson of Cub Sport, John Gouley of Portugal The Man, Kita Alexander, Briggs, Ziggy Alberts and Alex The Astronaut.
