Johnny Depp set to walk the runway at Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty fashion show

Johnny Depp has confirmed his involvement in Rihanna’s upcoming Savage x Fenty fashion show.

The show, which marks the singer’s fourth iteration of her Savage and Fenty lingerie brands, will stream on Amazon Prime on November 9, and is said to feature Johnny Depp in a starring role across the runway. Depp’s involvement in the showcase marks Rihanna’s first-ever recruitment of a male “starring” model, having enlisted Cindy Crawford in the same role for her show last year.

The actor will appear during a pre-filmed segment of the show — the stills from which have been circulating online. In addition to Rihanna and Depp, the Savage x Fenty runway will host fellow starry names in the likes of model Cara Delevingne, actress Taraji P Henson and musical guests Anitta and Burna Boy. Performers at previous shows have included Normani and Troye Sivan, among others.

Fans have taken to social media to express their dismay at Depp’s casting given the domestic violence allegations levelled at him by ex-wife Amber Heard, and her own history with domestic violence. Depp’s inclusion in the show comes five months after a jury found he was defamed by an article written by Heard in 2018, after which he was awarded $15 million in compensatory and punitive damages.

Rihanna’s Savage x Fenty show will arrive fresh on the heels of Lift Me Up, which marked the singer’s first solo single in six years upon its release last week. Prior to that song — which featured on the soundtrack of the upcoming Marvel film, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever — Rihanna hadn’t shared new music since her last album, Anti, which arrived in 2016. She’s elsewhere gearing up to headline the SuperBowl halftime show in February of next year.
