LASHES releases new single ‘Make Your Move’, shares moody after-dark playlist

Fresh off the release of her expansive electro-pop single Make Your Move, LASHES runs-through her playlist of after-dark bangers exclusively for Happy Mag.

LASHES has released her first single of 2023, a shimmering electro-pop gem titled Make Your Move. Buoyed by the Ballarat singer’s enrapturing and acrobatic vocals, which at once recall the likes of Giselle Rosselli and Mallrat, the single is punctuated at first by jittering percussive flairs.

Here, LASHES adds poppy flair to a tropical house beat, which later swells into something more anthemic on the glittery and cacophonic chorus.

In between distorted vocal ad libs and an infectious EDM rhythm, LASHES infuses a singer-songwriter quality to the soundscape, with the result feeling like something altogether unique.

Make Your Move was written and recorded alongside Michael Belsar, who has elsewhere worked with starry names like Bob Moses and Hayden James.

“It’s about the joy and pain of anticipation,” LASHES said of the single in a press statement. “It’s me being bold and direct; letting out words long unsaid.”

The single follows an already impressive few years for the Melbourne-based musician, who has supported the likes of Boo Seeka, Cry Club and I Know Leopard, and performed at festivals like Spilt Milk and Groovin’ The Moo.

In celebration of the release, LASHES stopped by Happy Mag to exclusively share her playlist of moody after-dark tracks. Catch that playlist — spanning Caroline Polachek to KAYTRANADA — below, and scroll down to listen to LASHES’ new single Make Your Move.

Assumptions – Kaytranada Edit – Sam Gellaitry, KAYTRANADA

This song has such a nice groove to it. I love how the vocals manage to stay uplifting; in contrast to the deep, hollow synth. It’s giving forest rave.

I Don’t Feel Like Talking – Kilder, Jouska

This one keeps me in a daze. I like the nonchalant vocal performance. There’s a passiveness to it which reminds me of when you’ve given your all to someone and there’s nothing left to give. No big emotions. You’re just over it.

tiki – PANIA

PANIA is an artist I’ve been listening to a lot this year. This is such a hot song! The desire is palpable and it’s super catchy. I put this on in the car when I want to feel like a baddie.

Bunny Is A Rider – Caroline Polachek

Caroline Polachek is one of my favourite artists. Her latest album is incredible. I love how explorative she is in her soundscape – a true song writer.

Blush – Glimji, Elphi

I found this song the other day and have had it on repeat. It’s such a feel good song. It emulates the feelings you get when you develop a huge crush on someone.
