Lenny Kravitz has been a fashion icon for decades. Always the glamorous rock star, he always shows up looking legit.
Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) awards celebrated all things fashion last week, which saw the well-deserved Fashion Icon award go to Musician, and actor, Lenny Kravtiz for his contribution to fashion.
Bradley Cooper presented the rock star with the award, with Kravitz giving big thanks and a poignant shout-out to the value of individuality. ‘We should all be celebrated for who and what we are, we’re all different and that’s the beauty. We’re all here to express and learn from each other.’
Lenny’s signature style was on full display at the awards, where he was honoured with the Fashion Icon Award – wearing a custom look by LaQuan Smith: a double-breasted wool blazer with satin lapels and cutout details at the hip, tight leather pants, and a black ostrich feather boa.
A long-time fan of the designer’s work, saw Kravitz reach out to LaQuan, which resulted in a new collaboration between the pair, making Kravitz the first male to wear the fashion designer’s highly coveted fashion line, “I reached out to LaQuan after admiring his work for some time and we met in person just a couple of days ago to vibe out,” says Kravitz. “We had instant chemistry and creativity and hit it off right away. I love his vision and look forward to working together in the future. The fact that I’m the first to wear creations he has made for men is an honour.”
For Smith, dressing Kravitz was a dream “Lenny is an icon and has always been a major inspiration to me in both my work and my personal style. I wanted to create something that really embodied Lenny Kravitz, The Rockstar. I wanted to push the boundaries of menswear with this look and I feel as though this is the start of something greater. This feels like a very iconic moment.”
We look at some of Lenny’s most iconic fashion moments, and yes, the ‘blanket’ is among them.
