Long lost Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash session set for release

UPDATE: An unheard Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash demo titled Wanted Man has just been released. Listen to it below.

A previously unheard session between Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash is set for release in early November as part of the 15th edition of Dylan’s sprawling Bootleg Series.

Recorded by the pair in Nashville over two days in 1969, the recently unearthed session includes the first known recordings of Wanted Man (which Cash would go on to release as a solo track) and The Girl From North Country (which would make an appearance on Dylan’s Nashville Skyline album). There are also covers of Elvis Presley’s Mystery Train and Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell’s You Are My Sunshine.

The compilation features recordings laid down by Bob Dylan & Johnny Cash at Nashville’s famous Columbia A studios in 1969.

According to Cash, “Bob asked me to be a guest on the album… and I went to the studio and they just turned on the recorder for about two hours”. Rockabilly Carl Perkins also makes an appearance in the recordings, playing guitar on six tracks (including his own, Matchbox).

In addition to the duet sessions, the three-disc set also includes sought-after out-takes from Dylan’s seminal albums John Wesley Harding and Nashville Skyline. Two tracks from the compilation have been released so far.

Bob Dylan’s Travelin Thru’ 1967-1969: The Bootleg Series Vol. 15 (featuring Johnny Cash) is out November 1 (via Columbia/Legacy).
