Eurovision rock band, Måneskin, accused of doing coke on live TV

The winners of Eurovision 2021, Italian metal band Måneskin, will take a drug test to prove that their off-stage antics were not drug-related.

The talent of this year’s performers was undeniable, but some are saying that Måneskin were high off of more than just their victory.

During the show’s vote-counting segment, cameras caught the band’s frontman, Damiano David, with his head bent over the table.

The comprising position and camera angle led many to believe that he was snorting cocaine.

The footage instantly caught the attention of viewers and made its way online. The outrage came pouring in, with some voicing their opinions that the glam rock band should be disqualified.

“[Guitarist Thomas Raggi] broke a glass…I don’t use drugs. Please guys, do not say that. Don’t say that, really. No cocaine, please, do not say that,” David said to reporters during a press conference.

Eurovision themselves confirmed that they did, indeed, find broken glass under Italy’s table.

In addition to this, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), the organisation behind Eurovision, released a statement to further explain the circumstances and their approach to tackling it.

“The band, their management and head of delegation have informed us that no drugs were present in the Green Room and explained that a glass was broken at their table and it was being cleared by the singer,” the statement read.

“The EBU can confirm broken glass was found after an on-site check. We are still looking at footage carefully and will update with further information in due course.”

While the alleged drug scandal continues to plague the band, Italians have continued to celebrate their country’s victory at this year’s competition.

Surpassing France, Switzerland and Malta with 529 points, the announcement of Måneskin’s victory not only gave the nation a much-needed morale booster after it’s been ravaged by COVID-19, but it also confirmed that Italy would also play host to the iconic singing competition in 2022.

In the meantime, representatives of the band have confirmed that the drug test will take place on Monday.
